Twitter and the Anywhere Lifestyle – Part 2

Tagged Under : , , ,

In Part 2 of my Twitter response, I continue with my discusson on how Twitter relates to the “work anywhere” lifestyle and how I personally incorporate it into my daily workflow and free-time.  Most importantly, I answer Jake Olson’s honest question: Does my wife think my Twittering is a complete was of time.

Hopefully my wife doesn’t see this.

So, do you think Twitter is a waste of time? Do you use it more for work or play?

  • Dave, thanks for so much great perspective on my questions. So far, I'm enjoying twitter, I've started using twitbin for Firefox while I'm at the computer and think it's interesting to scan people's tweets. Twitter allowed me to meet a few people at this trade show I was attending last week in Denver and that was cool and impossible under any other platform.

I think I'd like Twitter a lot more if I had the internet connected to a phone, but I don't get into high end phones with my lifestyle. anyways, loved to hear your perspectives.

Twitter is also a good tool for crowdsourcing answers to questions. If I'm thinking about something, say a new gadget, for instance, and I'd like some quick feedback from people who've already used it... I ask my friends on Twitter, and without fail, a cluster of people have first hand feedback to share. Just make sure you're ready to share back! But I agree, Dave. Twitter really is the ultimate virtual water cooler :-)

  • Totally agreed - I've used Twitter for this very same thing. In fact, the camera I use on these videos was recommended by a fellow Twitter user a few months back when I Tweeted about needing a good HD camera. There's a certain level of trust you build in your Twitter network and it definitely pays off.

Welcome to AnywhereMan, and thanks for stopping by!

I think you hit on some great points here. For example, finding and connecting with others who share common interests is key. I have made more valuable connections over the past few months than any other social media platform. I twitter is all about how you want to position yourself whether business or pleasure.
  • Glad to hear you are making some good connections on Twitter, Michael. Twitter is such a great tool for "getting a foot in the door" with people you might never be able to access through other means. You don't even need to have a great opening line - just responding and engaging is all it takes. I always say that Twitter really flattens out what normally would be a very vertical hierarchy of society members based on class, visibility, career position, etc. Plus it's fun!

It's been great engaging with you on Twitter, and here on AnywhereMan!
