Excellent points, Dave. What I always tell my clients is that they're paying for my expertise, not just my time. BTW, my favorite headshot is by a friend who recently started a photography business. Sarah's talent for photographing kids will keep her busy for a long time. The untalented folks are the ones who don't stay in business for long.

"And it’s a cruise ship that is headed out to sea to rescue survivors from the Titanic of corporate America." ha, love it.

Great points. On separating yourself from the amateurs - many times, this is reflected in pricing. I've had clients choose me over others simply because my quote was higher, which says to them that I provide more value - both in quality and customer service, and they're right. It's important not to get caught up in the race to the bottom of the pricing scale.
