The Key to Networking: Be Useful
I attended some great sessions and met some wonderful folks at MinneBar 2010 this past weekend. Today I share a simple piece of advice about networking that I learned in one of the sessions.
Credit for this advice goes to @kevindonlin and @mnheadhunter, two very smart gentlemen.

Very cool. One of my goals moving forward is to attend more networking events, particularly WordCamps. Online networking can only take you so far.
Interesting how I rarely (if ever) update my resume document these days. If someone asks for it, I often direct them to my LinkedIn profile and my site, which probably provide more useful info than 2 page text document to skim through.
LinkedIn definitely does everything that would be needed for a resume, plus contains legit references. Such a great app and I still think they'll keep on growing.
WordCamp coming to MN this fall so will definitely be hitting that one up. It is fun to get out and meet a bunch of other like-minded folks. In person.
Yes, online networking can only go so far!
Enjoy the long weekend, Brian! Thanks for stopping by.
Great Video, poignant advice “Be useful”. A lot of the networking I've done in the past has been hit or miss. I sat down and analyzed what I was doing. My best success had come with determining “where” I was networking. Some channels ended up being a waste of time and energy. My best success were at events or places where people actually go to network. Local networking events and sites like http://www.stanfordwhoswho.com are where I found the most serious networkers, and have grown my business and profited greatly from it.
