How I Conquered My Gmail Inbox With ActiveInbox

shot-sidebar

Just wanted to give a quick testimonial for a Chrome/Firefox plugin that turns your Gmail inbox into an absolute “getting things done” (GTD) factory. It’s called ActiveInbox and I am proud to say it’s allowed me to finally create a good system of managing tasks, follow-up items, and project-related items within my Gmail inbox.

I use Gmail interfaces for both my personal and business accounts, and I find that (especially with my business account) many of the items that get emailed to me are tasks: Update this, change that, etc. With ActiveInbox, I can assign those emails as task to specific projects, give them a due date, and even leave associated internal notes.

A few weeks ago I had literally thousands of emails in my inboxes, and after a day with ActiveInbox I was at inbox zero with both of them. I consider that a major victory.

Have you used this plugin? If so, share your story and experience in the comments below.

For the rest of you, check out ActiveInbox today.

  1. Dave – I tried ActiveInbox after seeing you’re tweet about it a few weeks ago. I was extremely impressed with it.

I’ve been running it for about a week now and have everything well organized and in a project ‘file’ or labeled as ‘action’, ‘someday’, ‘waiting’, etc.

Great plugin…I liked it so much I picked up the paid “Plus” version.

    • Saw you’re tweet about it this morning and it reminded me to write this review. So glad it’s working well for you, too! I’m honestly so used to using it now that it feels like it’s a part of Gmail.

Yeah the Plus version is definitely worth it.

      Thanks for chiming in, Eric!

  2. Hey guys, thought I’d jump in here. I, too, have been using ActiveInbox since Dave’s earlier tweet. While I’ve never truly had an Inbox overload problem, this plugin has now jumped to the top 5 of my list for Chrome extensions. Thanks for sharing!!!

I have been using ActiveInbox for about a week and I was drawn by the title of this post “How I Conquered My Gmail Inbox With ActiveInbox”

I was disappointed when there was no “how” offered. Should have been titled “I like ActiveInbox. Do you?”

    • Good point. :) Actually the title was intended to answer the question: I conquered my inbox using ActiveInbox. Maybe that would have been more accurate. Just being able to assign then archive all of my emails was enough to gain control.

Are you liking ActiveInbox so far? It’s still working wonders for me.
