Taking Time Off As A Freelancer

Taking vacation when you no longer have paid vacation days can be tough. However, this summer I’ve taken off more time than I have in my previous three summers as a freelancer. I also feel like I’ve gotten more work done than the previous three. Here are a few thoughts as to why I feel things have worked out this way.

How has your summer been? What did you do with any time you might have taken off?

  1. Dave,

Glad to hear you had a great summer and that you were able to take some time off with your family. If anybody deserves time off it is you. Best wishes for continued success!

    • Thanks, Todd! Hope that you and your family have had some good time together the summer, too. Well, it’s always summer there, isn’t it?! :) I still want to head your direction some cold January.

  2. Hey Dave,

First off welcome back – missed your video posts and so glad you are enjoying your summer and taking time off. Being focused and organized is a HUGE part of being able to shift from breaks or time off and working.

Since my son started preschool last year (half days) and now this year full days my schedule changed drastically. I am working on being more organized and cutting down on the noise so I can focus and get more done (been exploring the Pomodoro technique and batching tasks).

As for the working vacation I completely agree with you there – that is what The Anywhere Office is all about. While it’s great to completely unplug, being flexible or fitting in a little work you can take vacations we wouldn’t have been able to take before.

I know we both love our anywhere workstyles as it allows us more time with family and friends and that’s what it’s all about.

Keep the posts coming my friend!

    • Thanks, Phil! You’re right: the Anywhere Office is all about flexibility and BEING flexible. Getting in a little bit of work while on vacation, taking time off during the work week, throwing in a few “power hours” of work here and there…it really allows you to work when you need to work and play when you want to play. Finding it really sweet these days as it’s giving me more quality time with the kids.

Quick shout out that folks need to check out Phil’s site http://theanywhereoffice.com.
